The Annual Technical Manpower Review 2007 pertains to the State of Tamil Nadu is one of the major initiatives of the National Technical Manpower Information System Division (Nodal Centre for Tamil Nadu) of the Department of Economics and Statistics under the guidance of the Institute of Applied Manpower Research (Lead Centre), Delhi aimed at improving data dissemination by providing useful statistical information on Technical Education in Tamil Nadu.
The system comprises a Lead Centre at the Institute of Applied Manpower Research, Delhi sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE, New Delhi under the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.
The Review has been prepared based on the results of Student Follow up Survey, Institutional Survey and Establishment Survey.
The Review contains useful statistical informations covering the facilities available for Technical Education in Tamil Nadu, current arrangement of Teaching in the Institutions, in-migration and out-migration of students for education and employment and analysis of Engineering Labour Market.
I appreciate the efforts of the Registrars of Universities and the Principals of Engineering Colleges and Polytechnics in providing relevant information for the preparation of Annual Technical Manpower Review - 2007.
I would also like to express my thanks to the Director, Board of Apprenticeship and Training, Southern Region, Chennai for having made available the requisite establishment data to this Nodal Centre for use in the review.
I wish to appreciate the efforts put in by Dr. M. Murughan, M.Sc.(Stat), M.B.A., Ph.D., Joint Director of Statistics/ Project Officer, NTMIS Nodal Centre for Tamil Nadu and his staff in gathering data and preparing this Review Report.
The technical guidance of Prof. A.N. Mathur, Director, Institute of Applied Manpower Research, Delhi and valuable suggestions given by NTMIS Project Officers of Southern Region were very much useful in preparing this report.
I hope that this Review will be found useful by the planners and policy makers in the field of Technical Education at the State and National level.
